We started with a blank slate in this light-filled, two-story living room for an active family of six. Trips to the beach inspired a modern take on family photos rendered black and white and hung alongside an ocean-inspired abstract. New wheat-colored luxury vinyl plank flooring created a neutral ground ready for a Ruggable rug that offers subtle tribal style and washability. The mantle and bookcases got a makeover when a rustic beam replaced a mantle made of too-large white molding, and the shelving was saturated in slate grey paint. Light-colored, coastal-inspired accessories added to the husband’s treasured collection of wood pieces made by his father.
