If you’ve ever thought about working with an interior decorator but felt unsure about what to expect — you’re not alone. For many, the hardest part is making that first call. Each designer has their own way of working so it’s a good idea to learn a little about process before starting a project. Here’s how we at HeartSing typically go about creating our Total Room Makeovers.
THE DISCOVERY CALL – It all starts with a short, friendly Zoom or chat to learn about your space and goals. You don’t need everything figured out (most people don’t!). If you’re overwhelmed, that’s exactly why I’m here.

PHASE 1: THE DESIGN CONSULTATION – This is where I get to know how your space flows and how you live in it. I ask thoughtful questions, because this is about more than beauty — it’s about well-being. Our thoughtfully crafted Project Prep Questionnaire will help guide our conversation and begin the brainstorming process.
PHASE 2: THE PRESENTATION – Here’s the real creative magic of the project, the Design Board — a one-sheet plan tailored to your style, needs, and budget. I consider all ten layers that go into a well-designed space – floor plan, finishes, color palette, flooring and rugs, large furniture, supporting furniture, lighting, window treatments, art, and accessories – and show them on one easy-to-understand sheet.

PHASE 3: IMPLEMENTATION – In this practical phase, I handle sourcing, ordering, and project scheduling. I can also connect you with trusted painters, electricians, or carpenters — or happily collaborate with yours.

PHASE 4: INSTALLATION – Finally, we reach the most exciting part: Installation Day. I arrive with my team to place furnishings, hang art, and style the room to completion.

THE MAGIC OF LISTENING – Clients often say, “It’s amazing how you captured our style with just a few conversations.” That’s the magic of listening deeply. My goal is never to impose a style — it’s to help you discover and express your own in a way that feels elevated and personal.
