The challenge on this one was to lighten up this home office without painting the walls. Our solution was to replace old dark items with new light ones. It seems simple, but often the most impactful changes are. We swapped out heavy and worn honey oak furniture with a mix of Seadrift and White finishes. Additionally, we replaced a tan and black jute rug with one featuring a light pattern. To add visual interest, we adorned the walls with peel-and-stick wallpaper boasting a light background, which we layered behind family portraits. This pattern was echoed in the draperies on the opposite wall. Completing the transformation, we hung a watery abstract painting between two light bookcases. In terms of accessories, we took the opportunity to personalize the space, catering to its occasional use by a small plane pilot dad and his professional pilot son. Mom also shares the space and has expressed her love for the changes, telling us that we “…did a fabulous job. It is just so much more peaceful and calming for some reason.”
