Layer on the ten elements of style for rooms that make you go Wow!

When you break it down, it seems to me that every well-designed room has ten style elements that are thoughtfully addressed. Our Total Room Makeover addresses all ten at once in an easy, turn-key fashion and the results are so rewarding! At the conclusion of our Makeovers, we’ve witnessed clients with an improved sense of well-being, a feeling of calm, and increased optimism. Let’s take a look at some ten-layer spaces that caught my attention lately:

FLOOR PLAN
Every great room starts with a well-balanced floor plan that allows for good flow. Here, symmetry is the star of the show.

COLOR PALETTE
One of the most fun and challenging parts of the design is creating a color palette and being consistent with it.

FINISHES
This is a big one. Making the walls and ceiling come alive with paint, tile, trim, carpentry, and other built-ins is one of the best ways to achieve a professional look.

FLOORING AND RUGS
Getting the stain color right, choosing a great tile, or laying down a wonderful area rug is a great way to bring a space up to date.

LARGE FURNITURE AND SUPPORTING PIECES
Once you have the floor plan, color palette, and finishes in place, adding furniture makes the room functional as well as beautiful. Larger pieces set the tone, while smaller tables and accent furniture give the room a sense of ease.

LIGHTING
We can’t underestimate how lighting affects a space. The first thing to consider is natural light. We tend to let as much in as possible. For night time, layering light is key. We make sure there is a balance between ambient, task and accent lighting for a relaxing atmosphere.

WINDOW TREATMENTS
When done right, curtains, draperies, and shades can add a comforting sense of shelter to a home. Often overlooked or underestimated, this style element gives spaces an elevated designer look.

ART AND ACCESSORIES
Add personality and soul to your room with pieces that hint at your values, your travels, your family history, or your sense of style. Canvases and framed works light up walls, while pillows, bowls, vases, candle holders, and the like draw the eye in.
