How to create kitchen love with stained and painted wood

When it comes to crafting a kitchen that truly inspires joy, the choice of cabinetry plays a pivotal role. While traditional approaches often lean towards uniformity, there’s an emerging trend that celebrates the art of contrast and balance: the fusion of stained and painted cabinets. Let’s take a look at a few mixed-finish kitchens that have caught our eye lately…

BLACK WITH WHITE OAK
What a beautiful blend of wood, brick and tile – all set off with the high contrast of black. Notice the black range vent hood and fridge, as well as the overhead beams. These details further the masculine yet cozy feel of the room.

MUTED GREEN WITH OAK STAIN
The kitchen island sports a warm oak stain while the perimeter cabinets are done in a medium green. Tan leather bar stools further the warm wood mood, while copper trim on the range vent hood sets off the oak even more. (The copper is echoed in the dining table chandelier too.) Green and black backsplash tile is installed all the way to the ceiling and brings the black vent hood and green cabinets together.

WHITE AND WHITEWASHED OAK
The rustic look of the whitewashed oak island is repeated in the whitewashed brick backsplash. Pure white perimeter cabinets and pendant lighting offer bright contrast. Shelving replaces upper cabinets for a casual look. The dark grey color of the range hood vent is repeated in the perimeter countertop and window trim above.

DEEP BLUE AND WALNUT
The outer shell of the lower cabinets are stained in walnut while the drawers within are painted in a moody blue. Oversized brass pulls set off the drawers while antique bronze knobs add a vintage vibe to the uppers. A herringbone patterned backsplash wallpaper pulls it all together – gracing the insides of the upper cabinets as well.

BRIGHT WHITE AND WHITE OAK
A full pantry wall of white oak cabinets is flanked by a panel front fridge for a cohesive look along one wall. White cabinets offer great contrast in the middle of the room, topped by quartz countertops with subtle grey veining. Matte black hardware ties the two cabinet finishes together.
